How a Antique Calcium Carbide Miners Lamp Works in a Century-Old Abandoned Mine

Join us as we take you back in time exploring an abandoned antimony mine from the early 1900s, hidden in the Cascade foothills of Washington State. In this video, we use a fully functional 100-year-old carbide miners’ lamp, as we light our way through dark tunnels just as miners did over a century ago.

In this episode, we not only demonstrate a antinque calcium carbide miners lamp of the past—we also demonstrate how miners used their carbide lamps to leave behind graffiti on the tunnel walls. It’s a rare glimpse and a poignant reminder of the miners’ presence and the lives they lived working deep underground. Along the way, we encounter a couple of unexpected surprises! ⛏️ Like, comment, and subscribe for more forgotten history and underground adventures!

The Adventure Begins Now.

Most outdoor enthusiasts go hiking, fishing or mountain climbing, Ghost Towns of Washington has an enthusiasm all our own.  Ghost Towns of Washington seeks out towns, mining sites, and historic sites that once existed or will cease to exist in the near future.  Photographing and documenting these remnants of our past.

In 2010 we decided to embark on a series of weekend self guided adventures to ghost towns and historic mining sties in Washington.  We set out seeking the thrill of adventure and undiscovered treasure.  What we discovered was much more rewarding.
