Copper City is located 70 miles north of Yakima WA along Deep Creek in the Bumping Mining District of Yakima County.   The minerals at Copper City were first discovered in the 1890's.  The claims were sold to the Copper City Mining Company in 1905.

In 1906 a sawmill was constructed at the Copper City site for further development work of the mining camp.  In 1907 claims were located on top of Miners Ridge and the claims were incorporated as The Summit Copper Mining Company.  Ore was shipped from Copper City to Naches then onto the smelter at Tacoma.  Assays showed a return of $55 per ton

Copper City served 42 active claims from 1907 until 1942.  The equipment was moved out and mining came to a final end in 1948.
