Just outside of Silverton on the way to Monte Cristo
is an old mine.  This mine was from a claim around 1900 by Alf and Alton Eldred.  Seeking to capitalize on the boom and strike it rich the Eldred brothers worked the mine until 1926.  The boom never developed like many had hoped and most mines were abandoned by the mid 1900's.

This is great little mine for families and kids.

Located off of the Mountain Loop Highway just past the "Red Bridge" between Verlot and Silverton at mile post 18.  There is a turn off and parking on the left.
ghost town (noun): a once-flourishing town wholly or nearly deserted usually as a result of the failure of some economic activity.
