Partially collapsed adit near Blewett townsite.
Black Jack Mine/Peshatin Mines located in Blewett Mining District along Culver Gulch.  Sometimes referred to as the Peshatin Mining District.

The mines were primarily gold ore producing mines.  The Black Jack adits were located close the the stamp mill at Blewett.

In the late 1870's John A. Shoudy, the mayor of Ellensburg was milling ore that was producing $40 per ton out of the Black Jack and Pole Pick mines and their extensions.

The mines produced about 3000 tons of ore in about 1900.

From the time of first discovery of gold in the area, until 1910, it is estimated that $1,700,000 was produced; mostly form the mines in the Culver Gulch region.

An interesting story about these mines is that the miners would find pockets of ore and hide the ore from the mind owners during the day.  The miners would return at night and steal it.  These mines were first dug in 1890.

An Important Reminder:  We strongly recommend you stay out of abandoned mines altogether unless accompanied by a guide familiar with the mine, safety and its structural condition.
